An alabama-raised video strategist, content creator, educator, podcaster, and introvert who plays an extrovert on camera. And I’m doing it all from my laundry room!
Springtime makes me think about changes; the weather is warmer, the days are longer, and everything seems like it’s in transition. It can feel like a good time to overhaul your approach to Instagram as well, but how? I’m glad you asked.
In case this is your first time tuning in, let me introduce myself. Reporting from my laundry office in small-town Illinois, this is Virginia Kerr. And I’m here to help you stand out and make money by leveraging and up-leveling your social media videos. I’ve been in the TV and video industry for more than 20 years. Four TV newsrooms, hundreds of videos, blogs, and podcasts later, I’m here to share what I’ve learned with women ready to get the most out of their hard work.
Does video intimidate you? Make you want to hide? I’m excited to help you push through your limiting beliefs and show you that you can shine on video! I’m closing the gap by teaching you easy systems and sharing templates that help your videos get in front of your ideal clients.
Welcome to This is Virginia Kerr, The Podcast! Let’s get started!
Every once in a while it’s a good idea to shake things up and get out of the routine of posting the way you normally do. Content testing is a great way to shake things up while making sure your audience still feels like they can relate to you and your style of content. It’s like when a favorite band or musician finds the balance of evolving their style while honoring what got them fans in the first place. By monitoring their reactions in comments and DMs you can gauge whether or not your audience appreciates your social media evolution.
Testing out new techniques every so often can also help snag your viewers’ attention. If you’re in a posting rut, or always post the same type of content, something new will be eye-catching, and your audience will be intrigued and more apt to tune in to see if this is a permanent change.
It can be as simple as changing the ratio of the frame you usually use while you film. This was just one of the strategies I employed on my journey to see what changes I could make to keep my content fresh and my audience interested. I tried it all- polls, new sounds, trending audio, 86ing my characters (RIP), and playing around with lighting- just to name a few.
While testing content is a great way to help you implement necessary changes, it also serves to help highlight what you’re doing right. As soon as I started making changes, I received feedback in the form of puzzled questions and critiques. What was I doing? What was going on? People didn’t love some of the new techniques I was testing, and this was confirmation that what I was doing before still works. I know now that it still resonates with people and they remember it enough to speak up if it goes away.
