An alabama-raised video strategist, content creator, educator, podcaster, and introvert who plays an extrovert on camera. And I’m doing it all from my laundry room!
I heard that you think you’re “too boring” to create video content? Or that you believe it’s too time-consuming, or that you’ll be spectacularly horrible at it. So you’re not even going to try.
This is all just a silly rumor, right? You have to know you can absolutely create watchable content people want to view…oh, you don’t? Well then…
In case this is your first time tuning in, let me introduce myself. Reporting from my laundry office in small-town Illinois, this is Virginia Kerr. And I’m here to help you stand out and make money by leveraging and up-leveling your social media videos. I’ve been in the TV and video industry for more than 20 years. Four TV newsrooms, hundreds of videos, blogs, and podcasts later, I’m here to share what I’ve learned with women ready to get the most out of their hard work.
Does video intimidate you? Make you want to hide? I’m excited to help you push through your limiting beliefs and show you that you can shine on video! I’m closing the gap by teaching you easy systems and sharing templates that help your videos get in front of your ideal clients.
Welcome to This is Virginia Kerr, The Podcast! Let’s get started!
Listen, it’s really easy to overlook your own talent, especially when it’s something you’re good at. We have this idea that being good at something needs to be hard, and that it should demand Olympic-level dedication.
Where did we get this idea that for us to be good at something it had to be soul-sucking (no offense to Olympic Athletes, they seem like they’re having fun).
In fact, Olympic athletes, while they work very hard, also possess a natural athletic talent that most of us don’t have. That’s why they’re in the Olympics while you peaked in high school track. Sure, they refine and perfect that talent, but it stems from something inside that just makes them adept at their sport.
Believe it or not, it’s the same with you making videos. Just because you have fun while you do it, doesn’t mean they’re not worth watching, or that the content isn’t meaningful. And if you can take your natural desire to help people improve their lives, your videos will show that.
You’ve heard it since you were a kid, but that’s because it really is true. Practice makes perfect. This feeds right into your argument that you don’t have time to make videos.
Half the reason it feels so time-consuming, in the beginning, is because you’re so busy trying to figure out how everything works. From filming to finding the best talking points to really engage your audience, it can be daunting.
Editing. We will not speak of the editing learning curve for it is monstrous. But not insurmountable, it just, yes, takes time to learn.
But you can learn it and you’ll be better for it. And once all of the above become standard practice for you, you’ll be able to crank out quality content before you can say “IG reel”.
You feel like you have nothing to say, or that everyone else out there says it so much better. I get that, I do. It’s a common feeling.
It’s also not true.
You have a perspective that’s all your own. And you have a unique way of delivering that perspective. I’m talking about your personality, which you should showcase, not hide in terms of video content.
Ironically, the things that make you different, that you try to hide- these are the things that set you apart and make you memorable. They make you human and endear you to your audience who have come to your videos because, while perhaps it’s been said, it’s never been said quite like that, by someone like you.
That’s the real secret to all of this. You have to stop hiding who you are and what you believe in. You have to let go and have fun and let all of you shine through. That’s how you reach people and that’s how you grow your brand.
I can help you refine your message, and teach you the best way to harness your own power, but really it’s in you already. We just have to find it.
This is exactly why I started my This is Video School program; we discuss various strategies for every corner of Instagram and TikTok, as well as hold each other accountable through group discussions. Honest feedback and friendship? Yes please!
