An alabama-raised video strategist, content creator, educator, podcaster, and introvert who plays an extrovert on camera. And I’m doing it all from my laundry room!
Do you think that in order to create videos that people want to watch- videos that look spectacular and show you in your best light you have to spend a fortune? Well, think again, because you don’t need to go broke to get the gear you need to create easy and quality videos that help grow your business and your audience.
In case this is your first time tuning in, let me introduce myself. Reporting from my laundry office in small-town Illinois, this is Virginia Kerr. And I’m here to help you stand out and make money by leveraging and up-leveling your social media videos. I’ve been in the TV and video industry for more than 20 years. Four TV newsrooms, hundreds of videos, blogs, and podcasts later, I’m here to share what I’ve learned with women ready to get the most out of their hard work.
Does video intimidate you? Make you want to hide? I’m excited to help you push through your limiting beliefs and show you that you can shine on video! I’m closing the gap by teaching you easy systems and sharing templates that help your videos get in front of your ideal clients.
Welcome to This is Virginia Kerr, The Podcast! Let’s get started!
Would you believe me when I say that a couple of the best tricks I could ever teach you cost absolutely nothing? Well, you should because they don’t. Quality sound and light are crucial, and you can achieve both…for free in…
Your car!
Your car is particularly great for sound, which is one of the most critical components of any video. Visually we as an audience can forgive if something is a tad off, but if the sound is hard to hear, or annoying in any way we tend to swipe on.
The only caveat here is that in terms of lighting you should obviously wait for a sunny day, and make sure you’re not getting blasted by the sun. Also maybe don’t actually drive while you’re out filming, but other than that hop in and hit record!
You will probably have to spend some money in your pursuit of video greatness. But again, if you have visions of film crews and movie-quality cameras swimming in your brain, you’re way off base. You can get a really decent microphone off Amazon for $20; it’s not as flexible as other versions out there, but it’ll get you started. Tripods or selfie sticks are great ways to enhance the quality of your videos, and you can find them in the dollar section at Target. Sure, you could probably find “better” versions out there, but are they actually better or just more expensive? At some point, a selfie stick is a selfie stick.
Ring lights or other enhancing lights again can be purchased on Amazon, and the right lighting will give you so much confidence in how you look and feel on camera. Fix your angles to accentuate your eyes and not your chest and before you know it, you’ll be counting down the minutes till you get to film for the day.
