An alabama-raised video strategist, content creator, educator, podcaster, and introvert who plays an extrovert on camera. And I’m doing it all from my laundry room!
Today I’m excited to introduce you to a graduate of This is Video School who is out there on Instagram absolutely killing it- meet fitness expert and my friend Jasmine Mays.
With her exuberance and enthusiasm, it’s no surprise that she always had what it took to be a successful entrepreneur in the digital space, and I’m thrilled that I was able to help her explode her following and her business using the program I’ve created. I sat down with Jasmine to talk about her experience in This is Video School and growing her business on Instagram.
In case this is your first time tuning in, let me introduce myself. Reporting from my laundry office in small-town Illinois, this is Virginia Kerr. And I’m here to help you stand out and make money by leveraging and up-leveling your social media videos. I’ve been in the TV and video industry for more than 20 years. Four TV newsrooms, hundreds of videos, blogs, and podcasts later, I’m here to share what I’ve learned with women ready to get the most out of their hard work.
Does video intimidate you? Make you want to hide? I’m excited to help you push through your limiting beliefs and show you that you can shine on video! I’m closing the gap by teaching you easy systems and sharing templates that help your videos get in front of your ideal clients.
Welcome to This is Virginia Kerr, The Podcast! Let’s get started!
One of the first things we talked about was the propensity to panic as soon as you see your following drop. But I was quick to remind Jasmine and myself that when it comes to views, sure they’re nice. But as long as you are consistently engaging with your ideal person, and creating content that speaks to them, your business will sustain itself or even grow and that’s the important thing.
You can take the pressure off yourself; one video is not going to make or break your business nor is one mistake going to sink your Instagram ship. As long as your central message and style shine throughout your videos overall, you’re going to be fine, even if you miss a post here and there.
One of the most unique and important elements of This is Video School is that you get a lifetime membership to the online community; essentially you have a built-in support system and sounding board from the day you sign up.
This community is full of content creators from all walks of life, including yours (probably). They’ve likely been right where you are now and can offer advice and tips for anything you might be going through. You’ll have access to these groups and resources for life; in this way, the program can really grow with you and your various seasons of life and entrepreneurship.
Growth and engagement are great, but if life is sending you signs that you need to slow down, then you should listen. Making a goal for yourself to post every day for the rest of forever sounds like a fast track to burnout. As a Christian, I truly feel that if we are unwilling to listen to what we know we need, the good Lord sees about getting our attention in other ways.
Maybe that’s why your viewership dropped, or you just feel like you’re out of things to post. Maybe after you take a little time for yourself and your family and friends, you’ll be full of creative ideas again.
This stuff is important- it’s your business. But it’s not all you are and it’s not real life. So if you feel like God or the universe is telling you to take a break and focus on your real life, listen. Stop ignoring the signs and really honor your feelings and what’s happening around you and be flexible in what you need to be doing.
Everything ebbs and flows, including followers, creative spurts, and life itself, and the only way to get through is to just enjoy the ride.
